Bridgwater and Albion Rugby Club, after possibly the worst season in their history, finally managed to win some silverware – albeit at golf.
In the 17th meeting between them and Taunton on a golf course, Bridgwater managed to snatch a 5-3 victory.
Bridgwater’s winners were Tony Innalls and Tony Staples, Pete Edmonds and Pete Hawkins, Bev Dovey and Terry Morley, Nigel French and Tony Pomeroy, and Roy Gummer and Tony Phelps.
Taunton’s winning pairs were Graham Marsh and Keith Huxtable, Phil Coggins and Duncan Hughes and Colin Gould and John Bartlett, who also achieved his first ever hole-in-one at the par three second hole. His reward was to stand all the competitors a tot of whisky.
The ‘nearest the pin’ competition at the 15th hole was won by Dave Stephenson, of Taunton, whilee Luke Hawkins, of Bridgwater, won the longest drive on the 10th hole.
