A Bridgwater hockey player has just returned from a once in a lifetime trip representing her country in the sport.

Bridgwater College student Emma Trunks (pictured) was selected to represent British Colleges Sport from hundreds of students who attended regional and national trials in December last year.

British Colleges Sport, the national body which represents sport in the further education sector, selects a national squad to represent it in fixtures across the year.

The season culminates with an international tour which this year saw the squad travel to Lisbon to play a string of tough fixtures.

After defeating a combined Lisbon clubs team in the first match, the side then played the full Portuguese national side twice, winning the first game 2-0 then the second 2-1 with a late winner. They then went on to win the final two matches of the tour against the Portuguese club Champions Camir.

British Colleges head coach Chris Glover said: “Emma has had a fantastic season with BCS. Her performances on tour were exceptional and this will have been a valuable learning experience for all the squad.

“It is important to recognise the support of Emma’s sponsors James Latham without whom our tour would not have been possible.”
