ENMORE Park Golf Club’s Open Day has been given the thumbs up by everyone who was involved.

Twenty-four youngsters came along to the Juniors Talent Spotting where they enjoyed a range of skill-based activities and then the chance to hit some longer shots under the eye of PGA professional Dave Wixon.

At the end of the session, 11 of the most promising youngsters were awarded academy places.

Saturday morning lessons (10-11am) for the juniors have started - visit www.enmorepark.co.uk or contact the Pro Shop on 01278 672100 for more information on how to get involved.

SIMON Baunton produced the low round of the day in the April Medal at Brean Golf Club on Sunday.

His nett 66 took the honours in Division 2, one stroke ahead of the in-form Tony Higgins - Steve Hill beat his handicap to take third on 68.

Jim McLauchlan was the Division 3 winner after his nett 67 gave him the largest winning margin of the day, seven strokes over Jordan Hills, with Nigel Ellis third.

Early starter Jerry Brueford secured the Division 1 award with his nett 68.

He was three clear of Stuart Wills and Pete Barton.

The April Medal also decided the winner of the Brean Masters for 2018.

All the Medal winners from 2017, plus all previous Masters winners competed for the coveted award.

Despite not featuring in the top three in his division on the day, Martyn Cahill was the winner this year with his nett 69.

He was one ahead of Tony Richards, with Phil Hodgson finishing third.

The Avalon Division 3 side continued their busy start to the season by notching up another home success, this time against Mendip Spring on Saturday by three games to two.

Seniors captain Chris Stephens joined forces with Steve Barker to win the Super Series Betterball Stableford on Saturday.

The pair with cricketing backgrounds just failed to reach their half century, but their impressive 48-point total was good enough for top spot.

Chasing them down and taking second spot were Phil Barry and Pete Barton, with Nigel Ellis and Graham Foy third with 45.

Brean Ladies played their first friendly of the season at Wheathill last Tuesday but the hosts proved too strong, with Lyn Bird and Shirley Marlow the only ones to win their match.

Two days later, back on home soil, it was a different story as the ladies put Cannington to the sword, winning all the matches in the sunshine.

The Seniors were also in action at home on Thursday, taking on their Woodspring counterparts.

The visitors took an early lead but the hosts struck back to level at 3-3.

Captain Chris Stephens chose Roger Blackwell and John Hale as his team of the day for their victory.

Vincent Ford and Les Byrne are the new holders of the Wadeley Plate after beating Steve Vowles and Steve Barker in the final by a margin of 3&2.

Mel Brown produced some stunning golf to defeat Eamonn Wynne in the Winter Singles Final.
