Somerset Premier Division
Tone 74, Saturn 22

THE movement of Cerys Ethridge (GS) and Jessie Woodberry (GA) enabled Hannah Sayer and Ellie Schofield to get the ball to the Saturn shooters, but the first quarter ended 17-6 to Tone.

Despite strong tips from Abbie Newton and Eve Jenner, Saturn could not break down Tone’s defence, resulting in Tone gaining a significant lead, 35-7.

In the final quarter, Saturn threw caution to the wind and brought on Ellie Schofield at GS, and she showed quick movement within the shooting area, putting the ball up and scoring goals which gave the team confidence.

Saturn kept attacking until the end, which showed as the final quarter was their attacking best, and finished the game 74-22.

Somerset Division 2
Blackdown 50, Venus 39

WITH the courts damp from an earlier shower, Venus made a cautious start.

Blackdown scored first but Chris Shaw (WA) and Elaine Bowerman (C) helped Kayleigh Martin-Haste (GS) and Isobel Innalls (GA) keep Venus in contention (14-9).

The second quarter saw interceptions from Coleen Bartlett (GK) playing against a very tall GS and Tiffany Brice at WD, with strong links down the court between Georgina Goodwin (GD) and the attacking end to prevent the lead of Blackdown growing.

Ashlea Slater (GK) created some frustrations to the Blackdown shooters and Beth Hayes (GD) brought some much-needed energy, despite the heat.

Venus maintained good defensive pressure, resulting in another very close quarter, although Blackdown managed to stay ahead, winning 50-39.
