BRIDGWATER table tennis prospect Bertie Kelly continues his progress, qualifying for no less than four national Championships over the next few months.

Bertie, a year 8 pupil at Haygrove School, has had an incredible season so far, winning 17 gold medals, six silvers and two bronze medals at top level tournaments all over the UK.

Fourteen of these were in the Under-15 age category despite the fact that Bertie is still only 12 years old.

In addition to these achievements he won the Somerset Schools Under-13 championships for a fourth year running and won the South West Under-15 Championships.

Already part of the England squad, Bertie’s achievements as well as his top three national ranking have secured him slots at all four of the top championships.

In April he will represent Somerset at Under-13 level in the School’s Individual National Championships.

Just a week later he is off to compete in the Under-15 National Championships where the top 32 cadet players from all over the country compete to be crowned national champion, while two weeks later in May he will be leading the South West Under-13 boys team against nine other regions from around the country at the National Inter Regional Finals in both the team and individual events.

Finally, in June, he will be off to the U10-U13 National Championships, the event in which he was crowned National Champion in 2016.

It’s been an incredible first half to the season for Bertie and he has trained very hard.
