ENMORE Park Golf Club has added a new competition to its fixture list, with the inclusion of a Spring Open on April 26.

The club hopes that this will appeal to players not just from the local area, but from all over the South West.

The format is individual Stableford, and the visitors’ entry fee of £25 includes a bacon roll and coffee on arrival.

The new junior season at Enmore Park kicks off in earnest in a couple of weeks, with junior lessons starting up again on March 10 and the team playing its knockout final in April.

The club is hoping to build on last year’s success, which saw the team clinch a runner-up spot in the Somerset Junior League, the number of competitions increase to more than 20, a revamped junior league academy played over nine holes, and three juniors represent the county.

With Atlas Safety Management on board as new corporate sponsor, the junior section will run its annual Talent Spotting Day on the morning of April 15 (10.30am-noon).

Any budding young players are encouraged to come along and give golf a try.

William O’Halloran, the new junior captain, said: “This year promises to be an exciting time for junior golf at Enmore.

“I’d encourage new and existing young players to join the club, as well as to participate in the Saturday morning lessons at 10am, led by PGA professional Dave Wixon.”

Further details on the section and membership can be found here.

ONLY one event escaped the clutches of the wintry weather at Brean Golf Club last week, as 17 hardy Seniors braved the sub-zero conditions to contest the re-arranged February medal on Tuesday morning.

With the ‘Beast from the East’ blowing, George Stratford had the leading score of the day with a nett 65 to win Division Two on the temporary greens.

He headed home Bob Hurrell and Roger Phillips by one with Hurrell getting second spot on countback.

Sixty-six was the winning score in the top division, with Bill Marlow posting that number.

He enjoyed a larger winning margin than Stratford as his nearest challengers were three strokes behind him.

Barrie Yearsley and Ron Edmondson both scored 69s with Yearsley having the superior back nine to take the runners-up position.
