GoCrea8 Men’s League Central 1
Team Bath D 3, Bridgwater 3

BRIDGWATER took on the league’s bottom side aiming for another three points but couldn’t get going initially and found themselves 2-0 down at half-time.

Bridgwater came out firing on all cylinders from the start of the second half and Josh Gale dribbled through the D to lay a pass off to Tom Lott, who slotted the ball past the keeper.

The away side were in control now, with some excellent defending from the Morrish and Syvret brothers in defence.

The equaliser arrived when Duncan Morrish drilled the ball into the D and Mulberry Threlfall-Eyres netted his first goal for the 1st XI with a chip over the goalkeeper.

Bridgwater immediately went on to get their third, with Lott taking a quick free hit to Todd Barrett, who finished perfectly.

The visitors looked likely to see it out, but with a few pointless cards they found themselves down to 10 for the crucial last 10 minutes and gave away a short corner converted by the home side to share the points.

West Central 1
Bridgwater A 1, Clifton Robinsons C 7

THE 2nds had a tough home game against top-of-the-table Clifton Robinsons and their new tactics worked for the best part of the first half, but a well-timed ball saw the Bridgwater defence split and the ball was slotted into the goal.

A well-worked short corner brought a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The visitors quickly scored again and Bridgwater heads dropped, seeing them fall 7-0 down.

The home side did manage a consolation goal late on, from a quick short corner, which saw Paul Bond power the ball home.

Next week brings the big ‘away game’ for the 2nds, taking on Bridgwater’s 3rd XI (12.15pm).

Old Bristolians A 9, Bridgwater B 2

BRIDGWATER 3rds remain in relegation trouble after a heavy defeat to third-placed Old Bristolians.

The visitors were four down at half time, and it was 5-0 within a minute of the restart.

Bridgwater battled away in the second half, though, and one injury required glue and five stitches, bringing a slightly early finish and a quick examination from the opposition goalkeeper (who was a brain surgeon!).

Bridgwater’s goals were scored by Andrew Hayden-Briffett and Ted Kelly.

Man of the match: Dom Rauch

South East 2
Bridgwater C 4, West Dorset A 2

THE 4ths continued a push for a top three finish with victory over West Dorset.

They had an encouraging start, with early goals from Steve Turvey and Sam Sweatman.

A second goal from Turvey and a penalty flick from Daniel Buller made sure they took all three points.

Man of the match: Tyler Coleman

Bridgwater, who are fourth, go to seventh-placed Sidmouth & Ottery B on Saturday (12.30pm).

South East 3
Ashmoor C 3, Bridgwater D 3

BRIDGWATER travelled to Totnes with seven Under-15s, two Under-21s and two broken ‘masters’.

The visitors made the initial breakthrough as Steve Morrish’s reverse attempt turned into a cross for Sam Thomas, who buried it.

The hosts then went on the attack, and although Christian Durkin made some fine saves, Ashmoor scored two relatively quick goals to lead at half time.

The home side remained on top, but gaps appeared in their defence and Bridgwater made them pay as Morrish levelled it up.

Ashmoor scored the third with 10 minutes to go but the away side’s band of talented youngsters weren’t going to give up, and with only two minutes to go, Kettlewell drove in from a short corner and the ball was deflected home for 3-3.

Man of the match: Nikita Cernikovs, Toby Knight

On Saturday Bridgwater travel to East Devon D (1pm).
