Old Bristolians 2, Bridgwater 4

BRIDGWATER travelled to Old Bristolians hoping to avenge the defeat from the first game of the season, but OBs took an early lead.

The visitors slowly got back in to the match and equalised through a short corner with a hard shot by Tom Lott to make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half started like the first and Bridgwater found themselves behind again early on.

Bridgy fought hard from that point onwards, however, and played as well as they have all season.

They equalised when Duncan Morrish found Lott, who slotted home for his second before completing his hat-trick shortly afterwards from Will Kelly’s pass.

Lott got his fourth from this corner with a low flick into the bottom corner to seal a fantastic win, despite finishing with nine players.

BRIDGWATER survived an early disallowed goal but did go behind soon after.

The hosts battled hard but were again under pressure and let in a second goal.

This sparked Bridgwater’s midfield into action and a good run from

Mulberry Threlfall-Eyres won them a short corner, converted by Rich Payne.

Bridgwater’s eagerness to equalise left gaps at the back and they conceded a third just before half time.

Old Bristolians netted a fourth and, though Payne scored again, Bridgy were unable to get back into the game.

THE 3s were disappointed not to secure a result against bottom of the table Westbury, and are hopeful of a change in fortunes after the Christmas break.

They remain out of the relegation zone, and hope for a more settled team in the New Year.

BRIDGWATER had a resounding victory against local rivals Minehead on Saturday, coming away with a 14-goal haul without reply.

The result moves them up to fifth in the table.

THE match started evenly as both teams pressed and defended solidly.
Jim Smith was his usual commanding self in the middle with Toby Knight and Ted Kelly both looking good and cutting out some good balls.

Sam Thomas looked like he was to have a good game at right back, playing well in defence, and James Kettlewell spread the play with some booming drives.

Mid Somerset scored first from a penalty flick, but this woke Bridgwater forwards up and their hard work paid off as James Kettlewell flicked home.

The next goal went Bridgwater’s way as Miller played a great ball to Burland, who found the back of the net with a thumping drive.

Harvey Larcombe then continued his scoring run as he slid the ball home just prior to half-time.

In the second half, Christian Durkin pulled off some cracking saves as the hosts battled to keep their two-goal lead.

Bridgy extended their advantage through a short corner which was tapped in by Mark Beebe, netting his first goal for the club.

Kettlewell added another but Mid Somerset pulled one back from a corner of their own.

In the last five minutes, Bridgwater’s continued pressure allowed Simon Burland to score with an incredible reverse strike and the final goal came at the death from Miller, who broke his Bridgwater duck with a close-range strike.

Debutant Nikita Cernikovs performed well on his first appearance for the team and he nearly capped it with a goal, only to put his effort narrowly wide.

This was a great result and the team can go into the break on a high.

Man of the match was shared between Beebe, Miller and Burland.
