Taunton Vale B 3, Bridgwater 3

BRIDGWATER made the short journey to Taunton for a late afternoon game in the blistering cold.

In a game they were expecting to win, they conceded the first goal.

The visitors took control and made some excellent chances but were unable to make them count, with Andy Taylor being taken out by the Vale keeper, but all was adjudged fair.

They finally got their first goal from an unlikely scorer – left-back Dom Court – and then took the lead thanks to great work from Will Pope.

Bridgwater extended their lead after the break, with from a crisp strike from skipper Tom Lott, but they leaked two goals in two minutes.

Bridgwater felt it was two points dropped, leaving them in sixth ahead of this coming Saturday’s game at fourth-placed Old Bristolians (11am).

BRIDGWATER opened the scoring in this thriller through Rich Payne, but Bristol Uni quickly responded with a goal of their own.

It was soon 2-1 to Bristol after a great reverse strike from the top of the D going into the top corner.

Kody Fludgate equalised, Bristol made it 3-2, Will Kelly netted from a a short corner, but Bristol went in at the break 4-3 up.

The hosts restarted quickly and Alfie Threlfall found Mulberry Threlfall-Eyres at the back post for a tap-in, and Kelly made it 5-4.

Threlfall-Eyres deflected a shot from Fludgate past the keeper, and although the visitors pulled one back, Bridgwater held on.

Next Saturday hosts Bridgwater hope to overturn their 5-0 away defeat to Old Bristolians A (2.15pm).

BRIDGWATER fielded a strong home side and they quickly took control.

Mike Eele returned from injury and he, Paul Tilley, Paul Blackmore and Sam Uminski overran the Vale defence.

The hosts scored most of their goals from penalty corners, where specialist Eele was unforgiving.

He netted four, and Tilley and Carwyn Jenkins also got on the scoresheet.

Man of the match: Sam Uminski

The 4th XI have consolidated sixth place in the standings, and they are at home to Minehead B on Saturday (12.15pm).

South East 3
Bridgwater D 1, ISCA E 7

ISCA came at Bridgwater with everything they had but shots were repelled by Steve Morrish, Jim Smith and Will Baldwin.

Ted Kelly created a good chance but, with half time looming, goalkeeper Christian Durkin was finally beaten and ISCA led 1-0 at the break.

A bright start to the second half saw Bridgwater at last get some sort of hold in the game, but the away side wrestled back control and moved 5-0 ahead.

But Bridgwater sprung into life as Toby Knight, Smith, Kelly, Andrew Hayden-Briffett and Mark Beebe all linked well, got the ball to Steve Turvey, who sold the onrushing keeper a dummy and squared the ball to Harvey Larcombe, who pounced for his first adult goal.

ISCA added two more as Bridgwater pushed up.

Man of the match: Harvey Larcombe

The 5ths’ final match of 2017 sees them at home at fourth-placed Mid Somerset B, who are one place and two points ahead (4pm).
