Somerset County League Premier Division

Middlezoy Rovers 3, Yatton Athletic 0

MIDDLEZOY climbed back into fourth place with a comfortable win against bottom of the table Yatton at the Aerodrome, thanks to second-half goals from James Conway, Dan Luce and Jed Williams.

Jamie Temlett had a glorious opportunity on three minutes to put the home side ahead from a Steve Hall cross, but he could not make enough contact from two yards out with an open goal gaping.

The visitors, who are fighting to stay in the division, played most of the game of the break and had the next big chance on 14 minutes, but Steve Baker – replacing the suspended Turner in goal – made a smart save to tip over James Bird’s looping header.

Middlezoy’s Luce had a late half chance to put his side ahead, but his shot from the edge of the box was comfortably pushed over the bar by the visiting keeper.

After the break three quick changes from Middlezoy saw the game swing in their favour and when Shaun Turner was clattered into following a set-piece on 53 minutes, substitute Conway rolled the ball home from 12 yards to open the scoring.

Luce doubled the lead on the hour, chesting in from six yards as the visitors began to fold.

Williams then rounded off the scoring on 75 minutes with a cool finish following a good advantage played by referee Bryant, who was excellent all afternoon.

Luce then went through on goal alone in the final minute, but he shot over the bar with only the keeper to beat.

Middlezoy move back up to fourth and visit fifth-placed Staplegrove this Saturday.
