Somerset Senior Cup

Middlezoy Rovers 1 Street Reserves 1 (Street won 4-2 on penalties)

MIDDLEZOY were beaten on penalties following two hours of football in awful conditions at the Aerodrome.

Playing against the elements, Zoy had their backs to the wall for large parts of the first half, struggling to clear the ball due to the strong wind.

Street forward Toby Davey capitalised on a defensive mix up on the half hour to give the visitors a deserved lead, and Zoy did well to keep the score down as they went into the break behind.

After half time the pendulum swung - as did the wind - and Zoy were level on 51 when Damon Jennings banged in his third goal in three games.

Craig Wright was then released through on goal, but his effort was well saved by Street keeper Rob Hill.

The returning Jed Williams was also guilty of missing two clear one on one chances, firing the first over and while the second was saved as Zoy cranked up the pressure. Max Cushing then blazed over from an angle and a Williams drive went just wide, before Jamie Temlett's long range effort went likewise.

Despite creating the majority of chances in regulation time, the hosts were unable to find a second goal and into extra time it went.

The only notable chances fell to Zoy again, but a combination of poor finishing and the visiting goalkeeper ensured the game would be settled be penalties.

Wright stepped up first and missed his fourth consecutive spot kick in Middlezoy colours.

Williams also missed the third as Street converted all four of theirs and move into the quarter finals.

On reflection, Zoy should have won on chances created, but were not clinical when it mattered.
