BRIDGWATER fought back from 3-1 down to beat Bristol UWE 7-5 in a 12-goal thriller on Saturday.

Ben Rogers fired Bridgwater into an early lead, before the visitors hit back with three goals before half-time.

But Dean Pengelly netted a second-half hat-trick to lead the Bridgwater fight back and seal victory on an action-packed afternoon.

Bristol UWE started well, but in a matter of minutes Ben Rogers found the back of the net with a Bridgwater training ground pass and move exercise from the halfway line.

Bristol UWE reacted to this early goal and with a short corner it was back to level pegging.

UWE’s confidence was growing and scored twice more before the interval.

But an excellent second-half from Bridgwater saw Ben Rogers got another goal to take him to two, a further two goals came from Tom Lott getting back to his form of last season and with Dean Pengelly getting another hat-trick to make it seven.

Bristol UWE got a further two goals to bring the final score to 7-5.

Bridgwater Ladies suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Mid Somerset, who were lying just below them in the table.

Bridgwater were guilty of a few inaccurate passes in midfield which gifted Mid Somerset possession on their front foot.

Bridgwater were then judged to have committed a deliberate offence in front of goal and a penalty stroke was awarded.

Although Amy Burridge in the Bridgwater goal dived the right way, the stroke was well taken and high enough to beat her.

Mid Somerset's second goal came from a penalty corner touched in on the post.

Bridgwater looked like scoring in the second half, stretching the Mid-Somerset defence and winning a succession of penalty corners.

Bridgwater's goal came from a penalty corner, thanks to a tap in on the left post from Donna Cooper.

Against the run of play Mid-Somerset scored a third and ran out 3-1 victors.
