TAUNTON Deane swimmer Charlie Attwood took another step towards his dreams of competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, with an impressive display at the Baku 2015 European Games.

The Bridgwater College student won bronze in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the team medley relay to complete in a highly successful week for the 17-year-old, who described the experience as ‘an honour’.

Charlie said: “Firstly, can I say a huge thank you to the college and staff for their support.

“I had an amazing time at the European Games in Baku and am very pleased with my results.

“To win medals at the first European Games, while representing Team GB was an honour and an amazing experience.”

Attwood, who currently trains with Taunton Deane Swimming Club, was selected by TEAM GB, to travel to Azerbaijan, where he competed in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, as well as the tea medley relay.

He studies the CYQ Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness Instructing at Bridgwater College.

“He managed his time well to complete the course alongside his demanding training regime.”
