ON a day of bright sunshine and with the course in excellent condition, the Enmore B team suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Tiverton in the home match on Saturday.

Even with victories for Lane/Read, Hawkins/Brown and Maclennan/Sykes and a halved match for Martin Collard and Keith Wilson, Enmore lost 4 1/2 to 3 1/2.

After the Thursday Medal was washed out, good weather returned for a busy day's golf on Sunday.

In the morning, 104 players (26 teams) competed in the Dave Hartley Texas Scramble - a 7.30am shotgun start.

Inspired by Rory's 61 the previous evening, the scores were low and not much separated the top 10.

The young guns Danny Crook, Ryan Brewer, Alex Clapp and Paul Henson shot best of the day gross 59 (nett 55.9) with the help of Paul Henson's fine putting and 2.3 shots.

Runners-up on 56.3 were Wayne Davey, Steve Dacosta, Ian Case and Ian Bowdige.

The afternoon event was the Edward Cup with 21 pairs competing for the prestigious Cup in what is a testing format on relationships. Husband and wife Jim and June Symcox scored a very impressive nett 67.5 to win by 5.5 shots with captain-elect Rob Fear and Angie Bowden on 73 just half a shot ahead of Paul and Janet Waplington.

Bradley Malone won the Junior Medal on Saturday with a nett 68.

Club Day was a three-ball bowmaker with one on 3s, two on 4s and three on 5s.

Scoring was close and just three points separated the top six.

Sam Stroud Lewis, Tony Stroud Lewis and Steve Cording were victorious on 73 (-3) with George Alexiou, Paul Manley and Paul Thorogood losing out on countback.

Enmore Park Seniors entertained the Seniors of Lyme Regis on a blustery, but thankfully, dry afternoon on the Enmore course, which was in sparkling condition.

Enmore Seniors’ captain Mike Perry, was getting somewhat nervous after pair one recorded a win, but the next three pairs all lost. However the tail end quartet all brought home victories giving Enmore a win by 5 matches to 3.

There were fine wins by Paul Waplington with Jim McGuckin and Tony Pomeroy with Mike Cavill, both winning by 5 & 4.

Other winning pairs were Iain Stewart with David Brown (3 & 2), Roger Anniss with Graham Pain (2 & 1) and Dave Capron with David Taylor (1 up).

Enmore Seniors face a busy schedule next week with both home and away matches against Crediton with an away trip to Budleigh Salterton in between.
