BRIDGWATER Swimming Club were in action in the Cotswold League last weekend and went into the third round occupying their highest position in the league for several years and determined to give a good account of themselves.

Alice Vernon kicked things off for the Bridgwater team and set the tone with a solid swim in the 15/U 100 IM to take second place - but the club were denied their first win until event four, the Men's Open 100 IM where club stalwart Rich Hill controlled the race to take a comfortable victory.

Despite solid performances from several swimmers the club had then wait until event 12 when Rich was up again this time in the Open 100m Fly, where once again he took a comfortable win.

This was quickly followed up by the 11/U girls Medley Relay team of Katie Derbyshire, Jazz Forsey, Freja Fleuriot, and Fern Towells who destroyed the field to make it three wins. The Bridgwater men's open team continued to prove they were the class act of the gala when in event 20 former club captain Greg Kyd was in action in the 100m Backstroke and took the win.

By the end of the 20th event Bridgwater were in a solid second place - Greg was back in action with the Men's medley relay team in event 28 where the club took a easy win, the team also consisted of Rich Hill, Jack Plumber and head coach Ricky Hayes.

Again more solid performances followed until event 34 the 15/U 50m freestyle where Connor Bryant closed out a closely fought event with the Norton Radstock swimmer to take the win, this was followed up by Greg Kyd taking a win in the 100m Breaststroke.

Jack Plumber made sure Bridgwater won all the men's open individuals by taking a solid victory in 100m Freestyle and was then quickly followed up by Storm Munday who won the 11/U 25m Breaststroke.

Bridgwater finished the gala in true Bridgwater tradition by winning the final event the men's open freestyle relay completing the full set of open men's events.
