Saturn 41, Tomahawks 33

SATURN ran out winners in a tough game at Tomahawks on Saturday.

With a new line-up, which included three under 18s, Saturn made a steady start and trailed the home side by only two goals at half-time (18-16).

In the third quarter, Morganne Dunn (GS) converted some excellent passes from her sister Darcey Dunn (WA) and they both made good use of their height to pressurise the opposition and make vital turnovers in their attacking third.

This allowed Saturn to pull away and they went into the final quarter now ahead by 30 goals to 28.

The defensive partnership of Lucy Brown (GK) and Imma Matcham (GD) forced a lot of errors and missed shots by Tomahawks restricted them to scoring only six more goals, which helped Saturn to an impressive victory.

POM Morganne Dunn.

Venus 36, Spears 30

VENUS battled to a narrow win away against Spears.

Olivia Shorthouse and Chloe Trout worked well together and supported all the way down the court with clear drives and accurate feeding into the circle.

At quarter time Venus were trailing 11-8.

The second quarter saw Venus continuously fighting for the lead, despite the home crowds’ loud support.

In the third quarter, Cath Clark and Bex Dunn took the court whilst Emily Rossiter dropped back to a new position of GS.

With a change in the team, Venus managed to end the third quarter 27-27.

In the final quarter, Venus upped their game and capitalised on the errors made by Spears.

Mars 30, Vipers 56

A COMBINATION of under 16s, Mercury and Mars players took to the court against Vipers.

The untried combination took a while to settle but managed to keep within three goals by the end of the first quarter.

Wing attack Chris Shaw's vision into the circle took advantage of shooter Paige Langdon's height, Langdon finishing with confidence.

The second quarter introduction of Elaine Bartlett as centre brought a safe pair of hands to the court but the experienced home side started to pull away.

Although challenged by Vipers quick one, two in the circle, the acceleration of Hana Middleton (GD) produced flying interceptions and earned her the home team's vote, while the tireless efforts of player of the match, Emily Harwood (GK) earned her numerous tips and interceptions.

Further changes in the shooting circle and centre court showed the versatility of the team but this was a match that Mars were always going to struggle to win but a great team effort saw them pick up a valuable point.
