SQUIB A hosted the Lime Kiln A in Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League and opened with a 64.

Lime Kiln responded with an 80 after 15 spares from Rich Harris and Phil Atyeo.

Limers’ second hand went four better with spares from Ash Young, Phil Atyeo again and an 18 flopper from Glen Willard.

Squib were 29 in arrears entering the third hand so needed to find form quickly and, with four spares from the top five, that’s just what they did. Adam Cox, Trevor Clapp, Liam Gillard, and Ian Lorey hitting the spares.

Lime Kiln struggled in the third hitting a game low of 56, enabling Squib to just edge into the lead by two. Squib built their lead up to seven in the fourth before losing 10 in the fifth.

A tied sixth hand left Squib still three pins behind entering the final hand. A target of 72 was set by the home side, well within Lime Kiln’s reach.

Spares initially eluded the visitors but, again, Phil Atyeo came up trumps with a 15, but that left the last man on still needing a spare, which wasn’t forthcoming and Squib won by two.

In Division B, River Parrett A played Cross Rifles A and opened with a 63 to pull nine.

Rifles struggled in the first hand, before an improved second hand pulled two to reduce the home sides lead to seven, following a spare from Nick Searle.

A tied third hand was the springboard Parrett needed to build their lead, winning the next two hands to lead by 14 entering the penultimate hand, however a shocking 49 hand allowed Rifles to retake the lead by one.

Parrett set a target of 67 to win following their last hand, a hand saved by spares from Leighton Davis, and Darren Pear. Rifles had a spare of their own from Nigel Brown, but too many poor scores robbed the side of an away win. Parrett won by six.

Rugby Club A visited the Commercial Inn to play the A team in Division C and, from the outset, the game was close, the opening hand being a tie on 63.

Rugby Club’s second hand 63, however, pulled nine, which blunted the Commercial’s third hand 77 giving the home side a single-pin lead. Rugby Club hit their 70-odd hand in the fourth to pull 13 and lead by 12.

Commercial won the final three hands with 16 floppers from Ken Walker and Pat Bottomley but, come the final ball, they were still a pin behind.

Rugby Club won by one.

In Division D, Cross Rifles B hosted the Market B, and were 12 down after the third hand before a 70 came out of the blue, a 15 spare from Andy Rossiter doing the damage.

Rifles were now two in front, Market took the fifth hand by 10 before Rifles won the final two hands with spares from Ken Dibble, and Malcolm Bond.

The final target for Market B being 71, needed spares and it wasn’t until sixth man on Simon Court that a spare was achieved.

Simon’s 18 needed back-up, but sixes from the final two players left Rifles in the lead by seven
