THE runners-up spot in Division 1 of the Bridgwater Town Ladies’ Skittles League is still not decided with three teams in the melting pot.

GWR Club A are in the prime position, three points clear of fourth-placed Blake Hall A who they defeated at home by 12 pins but were in front from the first hand.

The Blake Hall side must win their last away match and hope GWR lose their last match. Even then it will be a play-off for second.

A third team may be involved if both the above teams are level on points after tonight’s matches and the Market D win their remaining game there will be a three-way play off for second place.

Market A (Jenny Garfield 71), last year’s runners-up, dropped out of the race for the same spot this year losing at home to Crown Inn A (Brenda Fudge 65) by just three after being 36 down on the third hand.

Second-bottom side Sydenham Centre A lost at Crown Inn B (Rene Donnelly 69) by 56 after being nine in front at the second. The Centre must now win their last match and hope third-bottom Market B lose their last match to force a play-off to avoid the drop to Division 2 along with the Blake Hall B, who are already relegated.

Division 2 leaders British Flag A, who won Division 3 last season, have a two-point lead at the top of the table after an impressive victory at the Bird in Hand B, pulling on all seven hands to win by 74. They still need one point to make sure of the title.

If they lose and the joint-second Bunch of Grapes B, who had a 25- pin home win over New Foresters B, and the other joint second, Lion’s Club B (Tina Woodberry 73), who had a 26-pin win over the Castle Club B (Lyn Marshal 74) will all be involved in a three-way play off for the title and the runners-up spot.

Commercial Inn A lost at the British Flag B by just three and drop to Division 3 along with the Lion’s Club A, who won their penultimate match in Division 2 by 16 after being three down on the sixth hand, pulling nineteen on the last, as their opponents, Cross Rifles B ( Sharon Stretch 65), only managed to hit 38 on their last hand The West India House are champions of Division 3 after they won at home to the bottom side, Rugby Club, by 40 and their nearest rivals, New Foresters A, lost home to third bottom Bridgwater Squib B by just eight in a game with never more than five pins between the two sides.

This means Foresters need to get at least a point from their last match which is at home to Blake Arms to secure the runners-up spot. If they lose and Sydenham Centre B win their last match at home it will be a playoff
