LIME Kiln B hosted the Cobblestones A in Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League and, despite hitting 65 without a spare (Steve Redman was unfortunate to get a nine tail), the home side lost the first hand.

Cobblestones converted their chance when it came, Gary Heritage hitting a 14, to pull six. The second hand was a reversal of fortunes as Cobblestones failed to convert their spare chance.

Lime Kiln pulled 13 after spares from Leigh Redman and Steve Palmer to take the Kiln into the lead for the first and only time of the game. Cobblestones’ middle three hands led to a lead of 27 by the end of the fifth hand.

Kiln won the final two hands but the damage was done and Cobblestones won by six. They also hit the only floppers of the game – by Paul Trunks and Jim Ireland.

In Division B, British Flag A travelled to the White Hart this week and pulled six on their opening hand, after an awful opening hand from the Hart. Their second hand of 59 squared the game, however their third hand dropped and allowed Flag to regain the lead.

The fourth hand again saw White Hart retake the lead, only to lose it the following hand. The penultimate hand saw Flag leading by 16. A late surge from the home side failed and left Flag victorious by a slim four pins.

Blake Hall B opened their Division C clash with the Sportsman B with two spares, hit by Craig Savage, and anchor man Gary Howes. Sportsman responded in style with three nines to start followed by a 16 spare from Joran Jinkins, however the bottom half couldn’t match the top, with the result that the hand was lost by a single.

Blake increased their lead to three in the second hand, before a game low of 59 handed the lead to the Sportsman. The second half of the game saw the teams first gaining and then losing the lead by a handful of pins.

Blake’s final hand of 73 set the Sportsman a winning score of 71 to hit, which eluded them.

Blake won by two pins.

In Division D, Sydenham Centre A faced the Market B at home. Joint top Sydenham started well with plenty of nines and spares from the Richs, Duddridge and Date.

F o u r th-placed Market B appeared to struggle with their first hand losing 24, however two 81 hands tied the game ending the third hand. A 17 flopper from Rich Duddridge and Keith Canns 14 spare pulled 14 in the fourth as Market again struggled.

The lead increased for the Centre in the fifth following yet another 17 spare from Rich Duddridge, and a 17 flopper from Shaun Mears. Market won the sixth hand by one before a massive 83 final hand with spares from Sam Facey, Tom Kiene, and Dan Sweeting saw them pull 23 to level the game – thus ensuring the D division remains really tight at the top
