Bridgwater 5XI 7, ECVH 4XI 3

BRIDGWATER V recorded a thumping victory over ECVH thanks to a fine hat-trick from Jon Brockwell.

As per usual the slow BWHC start ensued and despite some good work from Tom Syvret and some good clearances from Mark Hutter, ECVH took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored the first goal.

This woke Bridgwater up and forced them to press as Steve Pigden and Harry Jackson worked well to get a free hit, with Steve Morrish taking it quickly, passing the ball to Connor Gillespie who scored the equaliser.

Then a couple of moments of madness from Bridgwater allowed ECVH to score some simple and messy goals.

From somewhere Brockwell skilfully controlled the ball in the D and buried the shot to make it 2-3 at half time.

After the break, Bridgwater suddenly realised how to play hockey, making the ball do the hard work which led by the midfield of Pigden, Jackson, Vickery, Gillespie and Will Kelly.

All five looked composed, pushed backwards and forwards which helped create more chances with Brockwell powering home his second and Bridgwater's third.

A string of short corners for Bridgwater ensued with Hicks missing one, followed it up brilliantly flicked goal to put Bridgwater ahead, Pigden assisting.

Then Bridgwater opened up the play book and instead of going through players the passed ball was causing all sorts of problems as Dosson neatly tapped home his first of the game.

Pressure from Bridgwater led to a young ECVH team to make a couple of mistakes which were pounced on as Brockwell cracked home his hat-trick with a straight drive.

ECVH however weren't finished and put some pressure onto Bridgwater nearly scoring again, but the finishing touch wasn't quite there.

A Kelly cross was converted by Dosson at the back post to make it seven - and Bridgwater were much happier with the second half.
