Regional Division Three

Bridgwater Jupiter 37, Bournemouth 49

JUPITER suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday as they went down by 12 points to second-place Bournemouth.

Jupiter started strong with good movement from Amy Shaw (WA) but they had a lack of shooting opportunities and could not stop Bournemouth’s tall shooter, leaving them 10 goals behind.

Team changes for the second quarter helped Jupiter to claw back, thanks to fantastic defending from Sammy Kemmish (GD) and Bournemouth only managed to score two more goals than them.

The strength of Jupiter’s squad and accurate shooting from Paige Davey (GS) enabled them to win the third quarter 13-10.

However despite all players giving 100%, the damage had been done in the first quarter.

Player of the match was Sammy Kemmish – many thanks to Falcon for providing transport.

Saturn 30, Vivary 44

AFTER a week’s break, Saturn headed to Taunton to play Vivary.

Saturn were slow to start the first-half and despite great defending and numerous turnovers from GD Imma Matcham and player of the match Emma Cocks, Saturn were down by eight goals going to the second half.

The third quarter saw Saturn up their game and lose by just one.

The final quarter saw Michelle Stone move to centre and despite some great feeds in to the circle it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.

The final score was 44-30 to Vivary.

Neptune 34, Quantock 31

NEPTUNE started the first quarter slowly, making some silly passes – and Quantock took advantage and converted into goals – finishing the quarter down seven goals to 11.

In the second quarter Neptune started to find their rhythm – and with some great interceptions by Lucy Brown (GK) in defence and accurate passing into the circle by Hazel Hucker (WA), Neptune started to pull back and finished the second quarter trailing by one, 18-19.

In the third quarter, Neptune put more pressure on Quantock defence with Morganne Dunn (GA) accurate shooting and player of the match Sally Haysham (GD) strong defending saw Neptune finish the third quarter leading 27-24.

In the final quarter Quantock rallied and put pressure on Neptune who remained strong and finished the game winners 34-31.

Venus 28, Monmouth 50

AT the end of the first-half, Monmouth were ahead and had found their stride with a lead of 11-29.

After good interceptions from Emily Rossiter (WD), Saskia Middleton (GD) and Emily Harwood (GK), Venus fed the ball into the shooters Darcie Dunn (GS) and Hannah Setter (GA) who had many shooting attempts.

In the final quarter, Venus upped their game with some fantastic drives from Olivia Shorthouse (C) and great passes from Chris Shaw (WA) into the shooters but, sadly, it wasn’t enough.

Joint player of the match Hannah Setter and Emily Harwood.

Mars 22, Priory 26

MARS pulled ahead in the first quarter with a 6-3 lead, with excellent shooting stats from Cerys Ethridge and Sophie Cornish.

The second quarter told a different story with Chloe Trout feeling under the weather and Olivia Shorthouse stepping in as centre for her second game of the day.

The third quarter saw Mars creep back into the game with solid defence from Juste and Hana and the score line was tied.

The tense final quarter meant that interceptions were needed and Laura Gibson and Hannah white answered this call – but Priory held on.

Player of the match went jointly to Hannah White and Cerys Ethridge.

Mercury 42, Blackdown 34

MERCURY battled to a deserved victory over Blackdown on Saturday.

Blackdown led by five at the end of the first quarter, but strong attack from Amy Knight and great feeding into Paige Langdon saw the team begin to close the gap, finishing the second quarter at 19-17.

With Charlotte Setter and Tianna feeding the ball consistently down the court and plenty of great turnovers from Ronnie in goalkeeper, Mercury finished the third quarter in the lead at 31-26 – and with this winning combination, finished the game at 42-34.

A great win from Mercury with Dawn taking player of the match.
