Sapphires 32, Swans 52

SAPPHIRES slipped to a 20-point defeat on Saturday.

There was some great shooting from the attacking circle, from Lynee Cornish and Helen Martin, but Swans’ shooter was on top form and despite their best efforts Laura Coombes and Nic Hale could not stop the goals from going in.

Sapphires were disappointed the score was not closer.

Mikki Hole had a brilliant game and received Player of the Match.

Gems 36, Newton 41

GEMS’ slow start cost them dear on Saturday. Pressure from the Gems’ defence of Kerry Fellows and Beth Fella made it difficult for Newton’s attack to feed the ball into their shooting circle.

Amy Witcombe kept up the pressure on Newton’s centre passes, forcing errors.

The game was a difficult one with Gems players coming away with a number of things to work on.

Player of the Match was Kerry Fellows.

Rubies 18, Abbey 32

RUBIES were no match for Abbey on Saturday as they slumped to a 14-point reverse.

The first quarter was a low-scoring one, finishing with Abbey taking a 6-4 lead.

In the second quarter, Rubies’ defence made timely interceptions allowing them to score the first three goals of the quarter. But Abbey were quick to adjust and the quarter ended 8-15.

Rubies were determined to increase their score and all the players worked hard – the third quarter ended 14-25 to Abbey.

Abbey were a strong side and with accurate shooting and lovely movement in the shooting circle, the score increased.

Players’ Player and Umpire’s Player were awarded to Kerry Clark.
