A FORMER Haygrove School pupil has returned victorious from the regional British Gas ASA Winter Swimming Championships.

Kayleigh Parker, 14, who joined the Sherborne School last September, is already competing against the very best swimmers from the South West, including some international swimmers.

In addition to setting several new personal bests at the event, Kayleigh claimed TEN medals and a championship trophy in the following categories:

Junior Champion 400m Individual Medley – Silver medal 800m Freestyle Junior – Silver medal 200m Backstroke Junior – Bronze medal 400m Championship Individual Medley – Bronze medal 200m Championship Backstroke – Bronze medal 200m Butterfly Junior – Bronze medal 200m Individual Medley Junior – Bronze medal 100m Backstroke Junior – Bronze medal 100m Butterfly Junior – Bronze medal 200m Freestyle Junior.

Head of Performance Swimming at Sherborne Girls, Mark Rawle, said: “Kayleigh has been training exceptionally hard this term while juggling the demands of a very busy school life, so this success is much deserved.”

Kayleigh’s next major challenge is in April, competing for selection to represent GB in the European Junior Games. The Games only take place every four years and always in the year preceding the Olympic Games; in 2015 they will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
