IN the Bridgwater Thursday Skittles League A Division, Squib A hosted Bird in Hand A in a very close, high-scoring match.

Squib opened with 75, pulling six on Bird’s opener, and a tied second hand led to one of Bird’s game-topping 83s, followed by another 83, putting them in the lead by nine.

Nick Pimms’ pair of 18 spares, supported by an 18 flopper from Martin Coombes and a 16 from Mike Taylor, doing the damage.

Squib rallied and won the final three hands to take the game by nine pins.

Ryan Morgan hit a spare six out of seven times to record a personal tally of 89.

In the B Division, West India House proved to be the undoing of yet another visiting team this week after the A team hosted Blake Hall A.

Blake were unlucky on the opening hand after chasing 71, and starting with a 16 spare Steve Irish hit a harsh nine tail, resulting in a two-pin loss.

By the fourth hand the game was all to play for with the home side’s lead being a single pin.

West India finished their fifth hand with 65, pressurising Blake.

Scoring spares eluded the visitors, though nine tails still arrived to add insult to injured pride.

West India won by 20 pins after the final pins had been counted.

In the C Division, Rugby Club A played at Blake Hall against the B team and took a few hands to settle in, being 16 down after the third hand, spares from Aaron Walford, Gary Howes, Gareth Monaghan and Craig Savage giving the lead.

A game-topping 70 from Rugby Club coincided with the home side’s lowest score to swing the game on its head, and after the fifth hand Rugby Club were in the lead by three pins.

Blake took stock and hit two solid high 60 hands which Rugby Club failed to match, and won by eight pins.

In the D Division results have been thin on the ground with the unexpected departure of White Hart last week creating three byes, compounded by a late card.

Cobblestones B never gave their opposition, Duke B, any respite after the first hand of their match, which was tied at 65.

Duke appeared to struggle with the long alley, only managing three spares all night – two for their top scorer, Pete Cheese, and one for Dan Cheese.

Cobblestones had no problems with spares in all bar one of the hands and won by four
