Bridgwater 4, North Devon 3

THE first league game saw Bridgwater entertain new comers North Devon in what would turn out to be a goal fest.

Bridgwater started off the stronger of the two teams and went ahead through a Tom Lott reverse strike.

With North Devon showing some good one touches they began to make chances of their own even missing a few good chances but it was Bridgwater who would get the next one - from a shot from Lott it was Matt Upham who managed to deflect the ball home to lead 2-0.

North Devon levelled things up soon after with two quick goals – and took the lead with a third.

But it was not long before Lott got his second of the game from a short corner – and with North Devon seeming to settle for the draw with minutes left, Bridgwater continued to push for the winner and this would come from a sweet finish by Andy Taylor to give Bridgwater all three points. Next week they travel to Old Bristolians.

Bridgwater Ladies 0, Clifton III 0

BRIDGWATER started strongly and their game plan to keep the opposition out of the middle worked, thanks to the partnership of Charlie Lewis and Heidi Martin.

Apart from a couple of odd breaks, Bridgwater had most of the possession.

Millie Burridge ran tirelessly supported well by Jo Bromme.

Clifton had an attacking spell of ten minutes towards the end of the game but this was well managed by defence of Hayley Greenwell, Donna Cooper and Laura Coles.

The final minutes of the game Bridgwater had two near misses and were unlucky not to come away with the result.

Bridgwater Ladies II 3, Taw Valley II 2

BRIDGWATER Ladies pipped Taw Valley by a single goal in a tightly fought contest. The team worked hard and linked well to bombard the Taw Valley defence throughout the game.

The keeper held strong, parrying many shots until Kath Briggs combined with Jules Griffiths to score her debut goal for the club. The second half saw Taw pull a goal back and soon after a missed tackle at the top of the D left a one-on-one which the Taw forward somehow slotted past Sue Durkin in goal. Bridgwater did not give up and Becky Oram, Heather Tinkler and Megan Weston in attack made some excellent moves, finally forcing a corner which Becky coolly shot past the keeper. Jules Griffiths forced the ball over the line in the last 10 minutes to win the game.

Bridgwater III 14, Taunton Vale D 1

BRIDGWATER started the season with a 14 goal annihilation of local rivals Taunton Vale.

Rich Payne led the way with six goals, while Steve Turvey added a hat-trick for the hosts - Jordan Rawles (2), Jo Syvret and Matt Hubbard completed the scoring.

Ashmoor A 2, Bridgwater IV 2

A SOLID defensive display saw Bridgwater claim a 2-2 draw at Ashmoor on Saturday.

Ashmoor were limited to only one clear opening in the first half, but they made it count as a pushed shot came through a crowd to be tapped in a the far post.

Ashmoor however did not hold the lead for long as another hopeful long ball found its way to Dillon, who took two bites of the cherry to slip the ball past the prone Ashmoor Keeper.

Cammish the Bridgwater keeper pulled off two close range saves but was helpless to stop the second goal which was a carbon copy of the first, albeit from a short corner.

With time running out Hicks took on the Matthias Sammer role of sweeping and started to carry the ball out of defence, often creating panic in the Ashmoor defence.

However on one such foray forward he got caught short and Ashmoor won a corner.

Cammish saved, but could only flick the ball on to Stone's chest, resulting in a penalty flick, which was heroically saved by Cammish. This was just the spur Bridgwater needed and they pushed forward.

Eventually the pressure paid and Hicks equalised.
