BRIDGWATER College golfers competed in round four of the intercollegiate tour at Churston Golf Club, South Devon.

Jack Dray, 17, of Bridgwater, has an outside chance of qualifying for the ICT Players Championship in the final round of the tour on the Nicklaus Course, St Mellion, after returning a score of 78 despite an unfortunate start of a double bogey on the first two holes, followed by a bogey at the third.

Jack salvaged a par at the fourth by holing from eight feet, following up at the fifth with a birdie, and in the remaining 13 holes he dropped only four strokes.

Conditions were tough with a gale force wind blowing.

Scores from other Bridgwater players were Kieren Buckley (82) and Rob Ackland (84).

Ron Macrow, Team BC Golf Director, said: “This has been a tough learning curve for our golfers and Jack has created a chance to show his true potential, virtually out of nothing, with his round today.”

A week previous, the college competed in the third round of the Intercollegiate Golf Tour, West Region, at the Players Club, Bristol.

Rob Ackland, 17, of Bridgwater, returned a fine 79, and though ten shots off the lead he notched up six Order of Merit points, moving up to 21st place in the table.

Jack Dray, slipped to 16th place having failed to score any points in this round.

The tour has been recognised by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, and as a result the Tour Players Championship, held at the Warwickshire Golf Club in May, will carry Amateur World Order of Merit ranking points so players will know where they stand.
