MARKET A are now four points clear at the top of the Division 1 of the Bridgwater Town Ladies’ Skittles League after winning at GWR Club A by 15 pins.

However, they still need to win their last two matches to make sure of the title while the Shack team are still in danger relegation.

White Hart B defeated title hopefuls Crown Inn A away by 13 to give themselves the chance of avoiding the drop.

Castle Club A won at Blake Hall A by 19 and are now joint second with Market C, who won at home to Crown Inn B by 31. Anchor Sue Duddridge 66, supported by Nicki Lloyd 61, top-scored for the Market while Sue Tottle 63 was highest for the Crown.

Cross Rifles A’s hopes of honours took a knock by losing at home to the bottom side Commercial Inn B by 15 with the away side’s Janet Rawles top of the alley with 62.

Market D’s run of form continued with a home win over Blake Hall B by 23 but they are a few points short of the prizes. High scores were Chris Shaw 70, Bonny Applewhite 67 and Chris Braund 61 for the Market while Jo Marshall hit 64 for the Blake.

The relegation battle in Division 2 continues with the bottom three all winning.

Bridgwater Squib A won a tough match at home to the Blake Arms B by ten with T.

Fursland 70, Kath Menday 66 and Sue Mills 63 being the stars for the home side.

Commercial Inn A, joint bottom with the Fireworks, hit a last hand 43 at home to New Foresters B who could only mange 44 which kept the Commercial side’s hope of survival alive as they won by six with Pam Davey 60 their top player with only merit score on the night.

Blake Arms A, three points above the bottom two, won a comfortable home match against promotion hopefuls Cross Rifles B by 36, high scores being Clare Crocker 64 and Georgina Jones 62.

Two other promotion candidates were in a close finish with home side Lion’s Club B 15 up after two hands, which Market B whittled down. With the Lions four up on the sixth hand, they hit a last hand of 48 while the visitors scored 54, pulling six pins to win by two. Market are now second with two matches left.

Sydenham Centre A celebrated winning Division 2 title with a victory at Castle Club B by 76 with the highest score this week by Vikki Rees 81, Janice Cook 65, Vi Bonny 64 and Myra Richards 62, while the Castle’s Lyn Marshall hit 73.

Both top teams lost in Division 3. Leaders British Flag A went under by 63 to Sydenham Centre B as Kelly Pear 68, C Thornton and Alison Modley 60 top scored.

Long-time leaders Lions Club A continued their bad form when, despite pulling nine on the last hand they went down by eight at British Flag B.

With the top two losing, Bunch of Grapes B moved two points clear of Lions Club and one behind Flag as they defeated New Foresters A away by 23. Wood-cutters’ Chris Clayton 63 had the only merit score of the night and the Bunch now look the form team of the top three with just two matches left.
