Bridgwater girls played well within themselves as they tried to save some energy for their league cup semi-final away at Ilminster on Monday evening.
Town managed to find the back of the net after 20 minutes as a 20-yard shot by Ricketts flashed across the home goalkeeper and went in off the far post.
Five minutes into the second period Gornicki-Bond doubled Town’s advantage with a well-hit 25-yard drive, and three minutes later it was 3-0 as a cross by Kath Parsley found Gornicki-Bond who toe-poked the ball to Aneke Russ who netted from close range.
Town then switched off for a couple of minutes and some very sloppy defending saw Winsham get a goal back. After a Town attack broke down, a hopeful clearance went between two defenders who both stood and watched, as did goalkeeper Faye Edwards who was 20 yards out from goal, as the ball went into an unguarded net.
On the hour mark Ami Ward notched her 22nd goal of the season. A strong run down the left gave her the space to shoot and the ball went in off the goalkeeper’s knees.
Two minutes later Russ joined Ward on 22 for the season as she bagged her second of the game, forcing the ball over the line with her shin as it ricocheted around in the Winsham penalty area.
Bridgwater have now finished their league games and are currently four points clear at the top of the table, but second-placed Ilminster still have two games to play. The two teams also meet in the final of the Somerset FA Women’s Cup at Shepton Mallet on Wednesday, May 5.
Bridgwater Team: Edwards, Cox, Gillard, Ward, Harris, Barnes, Gornicki-Bond, Brown, Moule, Ricketts, Russ. Subs: Parsley, Warren.
