Dray relieved after Street win

Bridgwater Town manager Rob Dray was relieved to put last week’s 6-0 drubbing by Frome Town behind him with an impressive win over Street in the FA Cup.

New signing Nabby Diallo, making his debut, scored the only goal of the game with his first touch within seconds of coming on for the injured Chris Young in the second half.

Dray said he was pleased with his players’ “huge improvement” from the week before as they maintained their cup run.

He told the Mercury: “It was a good game. It was important we responded for the supporters after last week’s debacle.

“The new lads that came in did really well. Not just in terms of their performances but their attitude in wanting to come and play for the club.

“It’s a little bit cliché but Nabby’s goal was what the FA Cup is all about. He came off the bench to score with his first touch.

“We nearly didn’t bring him on but we insisted after Chris Young’s injury!”

Dray admitted his side were classed as the underdogs prior to the tie due to Street’s scintillating form in the Toolstation Premier Division but was impressed with Town’s performance.

He added: “Street are a good side and the manager is doing a really good job there.

“Our defending was a lot better on Saturday and we looked good going forward.

“It’s very pleasing but at the end of the day it means absolutely nothing if we don’t follow on from this and don’t apply ourselves well in the next game.”

Bridgwater Town have been drawn away to Truro City in the next round of the FA Cup, with the tie taking place on Saturday, September 11.

Dray said: “They will be a strong test for us but hopefully we can play well and get them back to Fairfax Park.”

*BRIDGWATER Town have announced the season-long loan signings of two Plymouth Argyle trainees.

Left back Jordan Trott and centre midfielder Sean Kinsella join the set up at Bridgwater Town thanks to the recommendation of Argyle coaches Geoff Crudgington and Kevin Kodge.

Town manager Rob Dray said: “Plymouth have been fantastic with us.

“We’ve brought in two good young players and could play in our game with Plymouth on Saturday morning.”

Bridgwater Town are set to play a select XI Plymouth Argyle side on Saturday morning after their scheduled fixture with Bromsgrove Rovers was cancelled due to their expulsion from the Zamaretto South and West Division One.

Kick off is at 11am.
