St George Easton in Gordano 3, Bridgwater Town Reserves 0

Bridgwater Town Reserves boss Jason Bale believes the scoreline is not a true reflection of how his players performed against St George Easton in Gordano on Saturday.

Bale’s men went down 3-0 away from home on a pitch he described as “horrific”, despite having better of the possession and chances.

But the new boss says there is “nothing to worry about” and he has been pleased with the players’ attitude and commitment since taking control.

He said: “We started off really well and missed a couple of chances in the first 20 minutes, but then they scored against the run of play and gained confidence from that.

“There is a lot of youth in the team - there are 18 and 19 year olds - but they are all developing well.

“It’s a shame to lose on the back of two really good performances but it was never a 3-0 scoreline.

“I’m really pleased with the players’ attitude in training. They have been superb. It’s a good atmosphere down there and I’m really pleased at the moment.”

The home side took the lead on 25 minutes. The ball appeared to go out of play for a goal kick but the opportunist striker picked up the ball and cheekily slotted it past the goalkeeper, much to the dismay of the visitors.

The score remained 1-0 at half time but St George Easton in Gordano added a second with ten minutes to go, and added a third soon after.

Bale added: “The guys didn’t do a great deal wrong.

“The pitch didn’t help. We like to play a passing game but the long grass held the ball up, which made it really hard for us.

“There is nothing to worry about and we will put this defeat right in the next game.”

Bridgwater Town Reserves have the opportunity to exact revenge on St George Easton in Gordano in the reverse fixture at home on Saturday.
