Bridgwater Town boss hopeful over two new signings

Bridgwater Town head into a busy week of friendly matches this week with boss Rob Dray insisting the pieces are starting to fall into place for his side.

Bridgwater are due to host Cullompton Rangers tonight before travelling to Bishop Sutton on Wednesday, and then welcoming Street on Friday night.

Dray, who says he has been hunting two new midfielders, is optimistic about completing two signings.

Already this summer, Dray has signed left-back Tom Parsons, a former Yeovil Town trainee; striker Sean Kenny from Watchet, who bagged two goals in last Wednesday’s 3-2 friendly win away at a Royal Marines side in Lympstone, Devon; and former Bristol City player Mike McKay, who also played for Bridgwater Town two years ago before moving to Australia.

Keeper Stuart Wood has also spent the last three weeks at Fairfax Park on a trial.

Although he is excited by his new recruits, Dray says he is also delighted to see the likes of Neil Peak, Rob Snook and Karl Tucker, who were among the stars of his title-winning reserves side last season, getting a chance to prove themselves with the first team.

He said: “Neil, Rob and Karl did not look out of place at this level when we played the Marines.

“They were a tough side to beat but I was impressed with the way we fought back from two goals down, and especially impressed by the last 20 minutes, when we looked fitter than them.

“Everything is coming together nicely at the moment, and despite losing so many players over the summer, everybody at the club is pulling together.”

Meanwhile, Jason Bale has been appointed Dray’s replacement as Bridgwater Town Reserves manager.

Bale, who managed Bridgwater Sports last season, has already recruited several Sports players.

He is now on the lookout for an assistant coach. Anybody interested in the job should contact the club.
