Even score for Bridgwater friendly

Cadbury Heath 1, Bridgwater Town 1

By Pete Besley

BRIDGWATER Town fielded a completely changed side from last season's campaign, which came so close to achieving promotion to the Southern League Premiere Division.

Managers Dray and Milson supplied a mixture of least season's skilful Reserves side with just Matt Pitchers and Lee Bailey from last season's first team squad.

Making up the team was Stuart Wood in goal, who has previously helped out Town, plus the impressive Tom Parsons and the return of Mike Mackay.

Cadbury Heath - from Western League division one - started the stronger of the two sides as the Bridgwater lads gradually acclimatised to the pace of the game.

During this early spell, Woods, in Town's goal, was in commanding form, handling well and making at least two impressive saves.

Bridgwater gradually came more into the game and took the lead just before half time when Andrew Forward skilfully laid the ball into Mike Mackay's path who made no mistake in shooting home.

Bridgwater looked a better side in the second half as the defence became more organised and coupled with tremendous enthusiasm by all players looked likely to increase their lead.

As in most friendlies, numerous changes were made in the second half with Bridgwater using six subs.

Cadbury Heath gained their equaliser on the stoke of full time as George Boon shot home following good exchanges from the home forwards.

Overall from a supporter's point of view, this was a good performance from a team which is just building.

There was total commitment from all players that took the field and interesting times lie ahead as sterner challenges lie ahead.

Team: Stuart Wood, Leigh Bailey, Tom Parsons, Neil Peek, Mat Pitcher, Rob Snook, Max Cushing, Sean Kenny, Andrew Forward, Mike Mackay, Carl Jones.

Subs: Josh Turner, Luke Morgan, Connor Watts, Andy Smith, Tom Hopkins and Ian Bellinger
