MIDDLEZOY’S Division One match against Belvedere in the Somerset Shrubbery League was abandoned midway through the Middlezoy innings after heavy rain.

Nathan Barnard’s men were 96-4 from 34 overs when the deluge interrupted play.

In Division Two, North Newton’s total of 158-4 was not enough as they lost by one wicket. Jack Sellick top scored with 36 along with Marc Barham’s 34 and C Street took 6-17 with the ball but Barrington clawed their way over the winning line.

Bridgwater A fell to a five-wicket defeat to Bagborough. Ali Hewson hit 30 in Bridgwater’s total of 138-9 and Tim Hill took 4-35 in reply with the ball but it was to no avail as Bagborough chased the runs down.

In Division Four, Kilve beat Fitzhead by four wickets. D Manchip (4-30) and C Clemenson (3-54) helped bowl the home side out for 154 but 47 from A Martin saw Kilve chase the runs in the 40th over.

Bridgwater Sports were routed for 76 chasing Taunton St Andrews A’s total of 155-9.

B Winter, J Winter and P Winter all took two wickets but only D Russell (31) provided any resistance with the bat as they fell to a 79 run defeat.

In Division 8S, Middlezoy hit an incredible 361-2 thanks to G Purchase’s 182 and scores from D Webb (76 not out) and S Ranson. They then bowled South Petherton out for 170 with N Peppard taking 5-46. Wembdon Wyverns beat Burnham. After hitting 160 thanks to 49 from M Watts, they were indebted to Kieran Cosens (4-29) to skittle Burnham for 76.

Chilton Polden posted 148 against Watchet thanks to 49 from N Dobbs but it was to no avail as the visitors won by one wicket despite four wickets from S Pinder (4-24).

North Petherton lost to Taunton Deane Crusaders. Crusaders posted 157-4 but Petherton were routed for 64 in reply with A Jones (22) and B Williams) the only players to score double figures.

In Division 9NW, Wembdon Academy bowled Wedmore A out for 79 with help from Dan Buller (3-11) and D Watts (4-11) and then knocked the runs off four wickets down thanks to L Pigden (25) and B Puddy (29).

Chilton Polden 2nds beat Taunton St Andrews B after 75 from L Birch helped them chase down Taunton’s 152 five wickets down. Three wickets for J Davis (3-25) and N Darlington (3-55) did the damage with the ball.
