North Petherton’s hopes of securing promotion from Division 1 of the Somerset League look to have disappeared as they lost to Purnells by 51 runs.
Purnells posted 160-9 thanks to 51 from P. Hewish but they were well restricted by L. Knight (3-34).
D. Tottle hit 46 in Petherton’s reply but he lacked support as the home side fell for 109 with P. Gregory proving to be the pick of the visitors’ attack, claiming 4-27.
Middlezoy remain top of Division 2, despite suffering defeat at home to local rivals North Newton.
The visitors batted first and posted 191-9 with J. Stone (61) and S. Venning (40) providing the main contributions.
Middlezoy’s J. Peacock was the pick of the bowlers, claiming superb returns of 5-46.
In reply, J. Lacey and Nathan Barnard hit 39 apiece but Middlezoy fell 30 runs short on 161 with North Newton’s C. Street taking 4-26.
In Division 4, Bridgwater A’s match with Westlands was affected by the rain.
Bridgwater hit 150-6 with opener A. Hewson top scoring on 31 and they then reduced Westlands to 85-7 but were unable to take the final three wickets, giving both sides a share of the points.
Wembdon 2nd XI’s match at Weston-super-Mare 3rds fell foul of the weather as their match was cancelled without a ball being bowled.
Kilve remain hot on the heels of Division 5 Fitzhead after beating Leigh- on-Mendip.
Kilve hit 198-9 thanks to P. Stone’s 62 and a classy 49 from A. Rock and then their bowlers set to work on the Leigh top order.
Only A. Lambert (27) provided much resistance as M. James (3-17) spearheaded the Kilve attack, with Leigh ending up on 94-8.
In Division 6, Bridgwater Sports match against Barton St David’s was cancelled.
In Divsion 8, Wembdon Wyverns suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Winscombe 2nd XI.
S. Pigden carried his bat to hit an impressive 64 not out with last-man T. Fagan (25 not out) to help Wembdon scramble to 137-9.
But Winscombe’s top order batted with class and a cool head to guide them over the winning line with ease.
In Division 9S, Kilve 2nd XI’s clash at home to North Petherton 2nd XI was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, and Wembdon Academy’s trip to Taunton St Andrew’s B suffered the same conclusion. No scorecard for Middlezoy 2nd XI’s clash with Taunton Deane Crusaders.
In Division 10NW, Bridgwater Sports 2nd XI claimed a win against Wedmore A thanks to A. Holliday’s superb innings.
Bridgwater hit 251, with Holliday’s 149 proving to be one of the highlights of the season as he smashed the Wedmore attack to all parts of the ground.
In reply, Wedmore posted 141 with a classy half-century from J. Tonkin but the total proved too much to chase down.
l WEMBDON 1st XI’s home fixture against Westland Sports in the West of England Somerset Division was cancelled due to the weather.
On Saturday, they travel to Street.
