Hinkley Point 104-0 beat Huish Champflower 102 ao by ten wickets

THE Pointers entertained Huish Champflower for their final game of the season knowing that nothing but victory was required to give them a chance of staying in Division 2.

Skipper for the day John Hill won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat on a wicket still suffering the effects from the week’s incessant rain. With the score on a comfortable 28 from five overs, Tim Hill found some extra bounce and Nick Clarke took the simple catch.

The breakthrough seemed to inspire the slim line Mike Luckes taking two wickets with consecutive deliveries. With Hill (6-3-14-2) claiming another victim the score had gone from 34-1 to 34-4. Two more victims for Luckes (9-3-15-4) meant that Huish were reeling on 46-6. A couple of wayward overs from Alex Towell boosted the score, leaving the tail to be cleaned up by Gareth Grewcock (2-0-8-1) thanks to a fine juggling catch from Ben Searle, Dave Hill (3-1-9-1) and Ben Searle (3-0-20-2) with John Hill taking both catches. The Pointers had bowled Huish out for 102 in just over 24 overs.

The Pointers went straight out to bat after refreshments with opening pair of John Hill & Paul Troman looking to finish things off in quick time.

Runs were coming thick and fast, with Hill dominating proceedings, as victory was reached in just less than 15 overs - with Troman hitting a season’s best 29 not out and Hill finishing on 63 not out.

The Pointers had comfortably won by ten wickets and now have to wait on other results are to know where they will be playing next year.

After having been rock bottom of the table halfway through the season, Hinkley went on a run of six wins from their final 8 matches to drag themselves back into the reckoning.
