West of England 2XI Premier

Chippenham 2XI 202-2 beat Bridgwater 2XI 201-7

BRIDGWATER failed to keep their impressive form going with a defeat to lowly Chippenham.

The away side travelled to Chippenham with the returning Callum Haggett and Mitchell Windsor in their line up - feeling confident of returning with the points.

A steady start by Windsor and Ali Witts (33) was continued with contributions all down the order, but with nobody going on to make the required big score Bridgwater scratched to maximum batting points total of 201 for 7.

On a difficult wicket it was felt to be a good effort, with the other main contributors being Ed Habberfield (35 not out), Haggett (27) and Dan Andison with 23.

After tea Bridgwater started lethargically and Chippenham positively, as the 50 came up inside 10 overs.

None of the Bridgwater bowlers could find their usual consistency as Scott Clapp, Tim Gogoll, Habberfield, Andison and Chris Singleton were used in short spells to try to get the required breakthrough.

Andison did pick up the wickets of both openers, but with the Chippenham batsmen able to wait, and then despatch the bad ball to the boundary at regular intervals, Bridgwater could never exert any control on the game.

All of the Chippenham top four made good contributions, and it was a day to forget for Bridgwater, as their strong 2nd XI were well beaten in the 41st over.

The club wanted to extend its thanks to umpire Ray Windsor, scorer Chris Cowley and bus driver Malcolm Sealey.
