BRIDGWATER Red Sox’s terrific Twenty20 season continued at The Parks on Sunday, as the West of England T20 champions finished top of a tough area final group in the Cockspur Rum National Twenty20 Cup.
The group contained the Devon champions North Devon and Cornwall winners St Just, who played in last season’s National finals day, which was televised live on Sky.
All three teams won a match and lost a match but the Red Sox finished top due to their superior net run rate, which came about as a result of their demolition job on North Devon in the first match.
They lost narrowly to St Just, who themselves suffered a big loss to North Devon but the Red Sox knew they were through, providing they could avoid the disastrous collapse that had afflicted their two opponents.
This they proceeded to do, only losing by 12 runs in the final match of the day, in front of a huge, supportive crowd as the forcast rain held off and the watery sunshine filtered through.
The Red Sox now host the champions of Wales and the South, Bournemouth, in the regional final at The Parks on Sunday (September 13), 2pm start.
