Middlezoy 196-4 beat Banwell and Churchill 195 by six wickets
MIDDLEZOY finished champions of division four of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League after another resounding win on Saturday.
Middlezoy secured an easy six-wicket victory at bottom side Banwell and Churchill.
Ben Warren took 6-43 as Banwell were restricted to 195 all out. Scott Clapp (3-20) and Dan Frampton (1-31) were the other wicket takers.
In Middlezoy’s reply, Mr Consistency, Nathan Barnard, hit yet another century (110) and shared an impressive partnership with Gerry Gray (47). Clapp (18 not out) and James Lacey (13 not out) saw the visitors home.
The victory crowned a remarkable year for Middlezoy who suffered just one defeat, on the opening day of the season.
Their success has been built on a strong youth policy. Eight of the squad are aged 17 or under and they will have high hopes of repeating their success next year in division three.
It has been a fantastic season for Middlezoy cricket, with the seconds winning division five of the West Somerset League and the U-11s winning their league without losing a game.
Key to the overall success of the club has been 23-year-old Nathan Barnard, who doesn’t just star for the first team – he also coaches the U-11, U-13 and U-15 sides.
