NICK Jones scored an impressive unbeaten century as Middlezoy 2nd XI thrashed Chard A by 145 runs in Division Seven of the Somerset Cricket League.

Jones (110no) together with M Wilkins (67) and A Clapp (73) fired Zoy to 307-3 from their 45 overs, before Nathan Peppard tore through the Chard line-up with 5-60 from 12 overs to complete a comfortable win.

Elsewhere in the Division, Wembdon Wyverns suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Burnham 2nd XI, despite 64 from S Pigden.

Batting first, Wyverns could only muster 171, before Burnham cruised home inside 32 overs thanks to an unbeaten 81 from J Birkett.

Also in Division Seven, five wickets from J Rees fired North Petherton 2nd XI to an eight-wicket win at Ilminster A.

Rees took 5-33 to help dismiss Ilminster for 127 – and in reply, Ed Stone (66no) was the mainstay of the Pethy innings as they eased to victory.

Middlezoy saw off Bridgwater A in Division One’s local derby thanks to a half-century from M Troman (69).

Troman top scored for the hosts to help them post 210-6 batting first, while there were two wickets apiece for Jordan Boobyer (2-38) and M Hastie (2-38).

Dan Andison scored 60 for Bridgwater A in reply, but his was alone hand and they fell narrowly short.

In Division Two, M Barham (4-42) and C Street (4-29) took four wickets apiece as North Newton beat Wells by five runs.

The pair combined to bowl Wells out for 153, after the hosts had earlier posted 158.

J Stone (43) and A Jenkins (28) were the pick of the Newton batsmen, while C Thompson (5-25) starred with the ball for Wells.

Mark suffered a heavy 118-run defeat at Taunton St Andrews A in Division Six, as they fell well short of Saints’ 266 all out.

L Tinklin (3-62) and T Moxey (3-28) starred with the ball for Mark, but the batsmen couldn’t back up their efforts and finished up 148 all out.

Wembdon Academy thrashed Wedmore 2nd XI by nine wickets in Division 8N, thanks to a fine bowling display from Max Syvret (3-13) and Paul Tilley (3-21).

Batting first, Wedmore were shot out for just 72, before Syvret (35no) and W Anning (22no) knocked off the runs.

Elsewhere in the division, Bridgwater Sports slumped to a 90-run defeat at the hands of Temple Cloud 2nd XI, despite a half-century from Matt Winter (54).

Winter was one of two players to make double figures for Sports as they crashed to 141 all out in pursuit of Cloud’s 231-6.
