Wembdon 159-6 beat Wellington 157

DAN Bingham’s unbeaten 51 helped Wembdon fight their way to a four-wicket victory over Wellington on Saturday.

Wembdon recovered from 88-5 to successfully chase down 157, thanks to a 71-run partnership between Bingham and Karl Trunks (32).

Earlier, Joshua Marrs (3-28) and Jonathan Brockwell (3-22) shared six wickets to help bowl Wellington out in the 49th over.

The Wembdon response got off to a blistering start as Rich Gower dispatched a series of half volleys over the ropes, racing to 20 off just two overs.

However, opening partner Tom Lott was dismissed early courtesy of a sharp catch in the slips.

A stand of 36 for the second wicket between Gower (44) and Marrs (13) had Wembdon in a commanding position 53-1 off 11 overs.

The tide quickly turned as Trott removed both batters in the same over and then Short the next over removed Jon Brockwell for a duck.

In need of a partnership, Bingham was joined by Trunks the pair began patiently nudging the total towards a 100 occasionally punishing the bad ball to the boundary.

They survived a couple appeals for LBW but otherwise shared a chanceless stand of 71 for the sixth wicket.

Trunks departed with only a handful of runs required for victory – but Phillips joined Bingham and the pair saw the side home.

Wembdon travel to high flying Staplegrove CC on Saturday.

On Sunday, they host Timsbury CC in the Davidstow National Village Cup Area Final (1pm)
