BRIDGWATER eased comfortably into the second round of the National Twenty20 competition after recording wins over Wellington and Taunton on Sunday.

After a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Wellington, Bridgwater then cruised to a 56 run triumph over Taunton to complete an impressive weekend of results.

Beginning the day in the field against Wellington, Bridgwater’s bowlers tore through the Wellington top order with Steve Davis’ off-spin picking up 3-12 in his four overs.

Bridgwater were set just 94 to win and made very light work of the total despite the early dismissal of Hallaran.

Steve Davis played fluently for his 44, which included five fours and three sixes.

In their second game of the day, Taunton asked Bridgwater to bat first in the deciding match.

Openers Hallaran and Davis began well again for Bridgwater scoring with relative ease as they looked to lay the foundation for an imposing total for the visitors to chase.

Davis played well again in his innings of 43 from just 24 balls. Stuart Butt (45 from 25) and Andrew Skidmore (51 from 24) continued the onslaught, hitting seven sixes between them as they scored all around the ground. Bridgwater ended on 185 from their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Taunton lost wickets at regular intervals as Chris Skidmore (2-14) removed both openers, including Taunton’s overseas player, Marcus Harris, as they were all out for 129.
