ASHCOTT & Shapwick and Chilton Polden Cricket Clubs are to merge into a single club to be known as Shapwick and Polden Cricket Club.

In the 2015 season, the new club will run four Saturday teams with first and second XIs in the West of England Premier League (WEPL) and third and fourth XIs in the Somerset Cricket League.

A club statement said: “Combining the pool of players will make it easier to field four teams while at the same time, the new arrangement will provide a suitable entry point into senior cricket from the former Ashcott & Shapwick Youth section.”

Based at Northbrook Road, Shapwick - Shapwick & Polden will also field a Sunday XI, enter various Knock-Out competitions and run a Youth Section for boys and girls aged between eight and 15.

In 2015 all home matches and training, except for Somerset Cricket League fixtures, will be at Shapwick where plans are already in place for a new clubhouse/pavilion.

Somerset Cricket League fixtures will be played at Puriton Sports Club.

Shapwick and Polden can now offer opportunities for cricketers of all levels of ability in the villages in the Polden Hills and the surrounding area and new members will be very welcome.
