Ashcott 180 lost to Downend 234-7 by 54 runs

CHARLIE Vickery's unbeaten 73 was in vain for Ashcott & Shapwick as they slumped to their fifth successive league defeat with a 54-run reverse against Downend.

Vickery anchored the Ashcott innings with a well-crafted half-century, but support from the other end was hard to come by and the home side finished up well short of the 234-7 Downend had earlier posted.

Ben Rudge was the pick of the bowlers for Ashcott, returning figures of 2-13 from five overs, while Nayan Karmarkar (2-42) also chipped in with two wickets.

Gloucestershire youngster Craig Miles was the mainstay of the visitor's innings with 54 before falling to Wayne Spencer (2-18) - and Phil Jackson, batting at number six, added 53.

Rudge returned to dismiss both Jackson and Grieshaber (17), but Downend scrambled their way to a more than competitive total.

Will Rudge (0) and Karmarkar (7) departed early in the Ashcott reply, both to the bowling of Rhys Barrett (2-32) - and Coppell (16) and Harte (22) weren't far behind, falling to Allen (1-27) and Matthew Jackson (1-36) respectively.

Vickery was moving along nicely with a number of sweetly-timed drives, but the other end was proving to be the problem as Vickery was forced to play a somewhat lone hand.

Sam Edmunds (17) and Ben Rudge (17no) made the only noticeable contributions in the middle and lower order, but Ashcott could only crawl their way to 180-8 from their 50 overs.
