Bridgwater 264-7 (50 ovs) beat Weston S Mare 140ao (31ovs) by 124 runs.

BRIDGWATER returned to form in emphatic style with a comprehensive victory over Weston at a sweltering Parks on Saturday.

After surprisingly being inserted on a hard pacy pitch, the home side got off to flyer as Andy Hallaran smashed former Somerset player Charl Willoughby into the bowling green off the third ball of the match.

Hallaran (41) was dismissed in the seventh over with the score on 48, before Bridgwater were reduced to 69-3 as Andy Fear (1-25) and Sean Stringer slowed down the run rate with fine spells.

Stuart Butt and Steffan Jones repaired the damage, cautiously moving the score along to 96 before the later became Willoughby's first victim just after the drinks break.

This brought in Steve Davis and he and excellent Butt (83) took the game to Weston, compiling a superb 97 run stand in very quick time.

Butt was well held on the cover boundary but this meant the in-form Davis (67) needed to open up as he again twice blasted the returning Willoughby (2-76) over the boundary.

Quick runs from Todd Barrett and Robbie Montgomery saw the home side close on an imposing 264-7.Bridgwater got off to the best possible start reducing Weston to 2-2 in the fourth over as Chris Skidmore and Montgomery bowled aggressive opening spells.

This brought John Williams to the crease, who counter attacked superbly, thumping a remarkable 51 before he fell with the score on 55-3.

Only Sam Trego (47) came to terms with the excellent Bridgwater seamers led by Jones (2-18).

It was left to Todd Barrett (3-29) and Cam Williams (2-26) to finish off the innings as Weston were dismissed for 140 in front of a very large and supportive home crowd.
