WEPL Bristol & Somerset Second XI

Wembdon II 273-9 beat Frenchay II 219 by 54 runs

WEMBDON II continued their solid start to the season with a 54-run victory over Frenchay II on Saturday.

Wembdon were asked to bat first and started well with Tom Lott in particular showing the bowlers no respect, hitting the ball to all parts.

The first wicket partnership was 60 before George Lowe (7) was out.

This brought skipper Jenkins to the crease and a 68 partnership before the superb Lott fell for 79.

Jenkins continued solidly as others came and went before a partnership of 37 with Lowe saw the score advance to 200 with 12 overs remaining.

Jenkins fell for 45 and Lowe 29 before the tail added another 70 runs, enabling Wembdon to finish with a respectable 273.

With the ball, Wembdon got off to a great with Watts dismissing both openers with the Frenchay score on four.

Bennett chipped in with a wicket, leaving Frenchay on 32-3 before the spin twins of Kieran Cosens and Tom Lott worked in tandem with Cosens picking up two wickets and Lott one.

With the score on 90-6 Wembdon hoped to get some bonus points, but it was not to be as Frenchay’s middle and bottom order put up resistance without troubling the Wembdon total.

Watts returned to take another wicket, finishing with 3-34 from his nine, and Bennett returned in the final over to claim his third and finish with figures 3-21.
