A CRICKETER from Bridgwater has been celebrating a very successful season on the pitch, which saw her make her debut for the full Somerset Women’s team.

Cassie Coombes, 14, attends Haygrove School, in Bridgwater, and is a member of the England under-15s squad, as well as captaining Somerset under- 15s.

This season, she became the first woman to represent Bridgwater Cricket Club at men’s cricket having played two games for the Bridgwater Pointers (4th XI) in August.

Having made her full debut for the county, Cassie also represented Somerset Women in the national Twenty20 tournament at Newport in July.

In the first game of the tournament, Cassie dismissed England opener Heather Knight and followed this up with figures of 2-9 against Wales and 1-9 against Cornwall.

The team won their first three fixtures against Berkshire, Wales and Cornwall but lost out in the final against Berkshire.

Cassie has played cricket for Bridgwater from the age of nine and has progressed through the youth ranks at the club.

She is a key member of Bridgwater’s up-and-coming women’s section, which this season saw a very young side finish fifth in the County League in 2013.
