A FLUENT batting display from Wembdon II sealed a 106-run victory over South Petherton on Saturday.

Batting first, Wembdon posted a massive 321-5 from their 45 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Lott (64), Hughes (64), Vickery (80) and Jenkins (55).

The opening pair of Hughes and Lott got Wembdon off to a flyer as they smashed their way to 94 before Lott was dismissed for an aggressive 64.

Hughes followed suit soon after as he was also dismissed for 64, but Vickery had already picked up where the other two had left off, as he and Jenkins found the boundary at regular intervals.

The pair took the score past 250, before Vickery was out for brilliant 80. Jenkins wasn’t far behind as he followed Vickery back to the pavilion soon after reaching his own 50, leaving Rawles (32 not out) to finish the innings.

Wembdon knew it was going to be difficult to bowl Petherton out on a flat wicket, but an early wicket for Hughes got them off to a good start.

Syvret (1-36), Cosens (2-18) and Buller (1-32) all chipped in with wickets, as the Wembdon attacke kept things tight in the middle overs.

Opener Hughes returned to the attack and put an end to proceedings to finish with 3-40 and seal a comfortable victory.
