Somerset County League Premier Division

Frys Club 2, Middlezoy 0

MIDDLEZOY travelled to mid-table Frys Club on Saturday for their penultimate game of an impressive first season in the Somerset County League Premier Division.

With Staplegrove losing in midweek it now looks like the lowest middlezoy can finish this season is sixth, and the way they started this game though it looked like some of the players had already began their end of season rest.

Compared to the last two weeks, Middlezoy started this game slow and the frys wingers were causing the Middlezoy full backs all sorts of trouble and getting some dangerous balls into the box.

Middlezoy were not winning the first or second balls, and when they did get the ball up to Andy Smith he was very isolated and Frys ended up winning possession back, allowing them to attack with pace and purpose which is how Zoy had played in previous weeks.

With Middlezoy unable to retain any really possession and Frys looking dangerous every time they got the ball wide, it wasn't long before Middlezoy found themselves behind conceding their first goal in over 180 minutes.

The hosts' winger broke down the left and his brilliant cross meant all the centre forward had to do was roll the ball into the empty net to put Frys 1-0 up after 15 minutes.

Frys could have extended this lead five minutes later when again a cross into the box was headed wide when the midfielder was unmarked eight yards out.

This continued threat down the wings prompted a tactical change from the Zoy management when they reverted back to the usual full backs of Charlie Lintell and Steve Hall.

This change helped Middlezoy to start to grow into the game and they started to create some chances of their own, the best of which fell to James Conway when he was played through one on one but pulled his shot wide of the far post.

One-nil was how the scores stayed as Middlezoy ended the half on top but could not find a breakthrough.

In the second half, Zoy began how they had finished the first and looked like it wasn't going to be long before they found the equaliser.

However, it was Frys who got the next goal when they hit Middlezoy on the break, with a cross from the right setting up another simple tap-in.

This could have killed Zoy off, but to their credit they showed the grit and determination that has got them some impressive results of late.

They kept battling and created good chances, firstly when Jed Willliams broke down the right and his cut back was met by the on rushing Dan Luce, who blazed over when well placed.

Then, moments later, Williams himself was played through one on one but again Zoy failed to work the keeper as his shot went wide.

These were the chances to bring the game level but zoy failed to take them and the rest of the game was played out without any other real chances for either side.

The game ended 2-0, a disappointing result for Zoy who have played so well lately.

They will look to finish the season on a high in their last game away to Shepton Mallet, and if recent performance are anything to go by then it could an exciting season next season.
