Somerset County Premier
Middlezoy Rovers 1, Nailsea & Tickenham 3

MIDDLEZOY were left counting themselves a little unlucky to come away with nothing on Saturday.

They took the lead against the table-toppers then were guilty of missing some glorious chances.

Craig Wright had the first real chance for the hosts but saw his first-time effort slide just wide of the post.

However, Dan Luce fired them ahead on 11 minutes after good work down the right from Steve Hall.

The visitors then began to find their feet and, following a slip from Tom Brown, the Nailsea centre forward fluffed his lines with only Steve Baker to beat.

On 20 minutes, Baker stood up well to deny the dangerous Nailsea striker.

With Middlezoy hanging on, the equaliser came from a set-piece with just minutes of the first half left.

Zoy then found themselves behind on 54 minutes when they failed to clear the ball following sustained pressure around their goal.

The third Nailsea goal had more than a touch of handball about it, but the Nailsea player ran in unchallenged to roll the ball under Baker on 70 minutes.

Middlezoy introduced Andy Smith after a long absence, and he headed just wide from six yards.

Nailsea were awarded a controversial penalty for a challenge by Baker, but the keeper saved to his right.

Wright shot tamely at the Nailsea keeper as time ran out – it was a decent performance against a good side but missed chances cost Zoy at least a point.

Man of the match: Steve Hall.

Team: Steve Baker, Simon Bone, Tom Brown, Shaun Turner, Steve Hall, James Conway, Carl Tucker, Dan Luce, Jed Williams, Jamie Temlett, Craig Wright. Subs (all used): Andrew Smith, Joe Warren, Daniel Male.

Somerset County Women’s Junior Cup semi-final
Middlezoy Rovers Ladies 2, Pen Mill Ladies 0

MIDDLEZOY Rovers Ladies progressed to the cup final after defeating Pen Mill Ladies 2-0.

It was a hard-fought victory, which was delayed after 20 minutes for a serious head injury to one of the Pen Mill Ladies players.

After the hour’s delay, Middlezoy struggled to get going again but were rewarded near half time when a shot was fumbled by the keeper and Georgia Coles poked the ball home.

The second half found Middlezoy on top but they could get through a resilient Pen Mill defence.

Eventually a through ball by Coles was taken on by Anusia Rourke, who drove the ball into the top corner.

Middlezoy saw the game out, and they will play Keynsham Town Development in the final in May.
