LOCOMOTIVES claimed the Taunton and District Saturday League Division 1 title with a 2-0 win over second-placed Staplegrove.

The first half was an equal encounter and 20 minutes into the second half Locos brought on Joe Wilkinson and it was he who broke the deadlock a few minutes later with a cracking shot from 20 yards.

Grove put Locos under pressure but a quick break down the right sealed the victory for Locos when a great ball was sent across the park to James Conway on the left and he despatched a fine shot.

Bridgwater Sports had three points deducted earlier in the week for a non-fulfilment of a fixture but came back on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over local rivals North Petherton, Paul Organ and Matt Fursland scoring for them and Nick Richards got Pethy’s goal.

In Division 2, Hamilton Hawks secured runners-up place with a 1-0 away win at champions Middlezoy Rovers, Josh Parker getting the goal.

Third place finishers Staplegrove Reserves didn’t get to play their last game as Wembdon Saints couldn’t raise a side and have had three points deducted as a consequence.

None of the top three sides in Division 3 had a game with Wembdon in fourth the highest ranked side competing and they beat Bishop’s Hull 2-1 thanks to goals from Craig Durant and Dan Casson; Steve Scorse netted for Hull.

Minehead beat Bridgwater Sports Reserves 4-1, Ross Addicott scored twice with Dan Haran and Zac Ryder once each but they took their time to take control of the game with no score at half time. Jason Bale then found the net for the third time in the last four games.

Sam Granville scored the only goal of the game with his side Redgate beating Highbridge Town Reserves. Sydenham Rangers had an easy afternoon beating Williton 12-0 and they will be glad this season is over for them. Jake Adey led the line scoring four goals, Nick Brown got a hat-trick, Jason Stephenson two with Ed Harrison, Josh Smith and Jas Riddle one each.

Division 4 saw Alcombe Rovers Reserves still have the runners-up spot in their sights and a 3-1 away win at Dulverton Town Reserves helped their cause, Lewis Hough scored for the home side. The Gallery didn’t get to play their game as their opponents Bridgwater Sports Colts were unable to raise a side and have a three point deduction as a consequence.

In Division 5, champions Tone Youth have just one more game to go to hold on to their undefeated record for the whole season. This weekend they beat Middlezoy Athletic 6-0 to take the title, Gary McKiernan hit a hat trick, Alec Jones added another two making it 43 for the season and Liam Merrick scored one.

Runners-up Woolavington slipped up at Galmington Dragons Reserves, losing 3-0 and Chad Nixon scored the only goal of the game to give Staplegrove Colts a 1-0 victory over Wembdon Saints Reserves.

East Bower finished their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Exmoor Rangers thanks to goals from Luke Taylor and a George Turner penalty; Clinton Kneeshaw replied for Rangers.

Nether Stowey Reserves and Creech Coogars both played their last game of the season with an honourable 2-2 draw. Callum Hardy and Tom Merritt netted for Creech and Deam Marcheant and David Rowsell did the same for Stowey.
